A little more about me
Teri Dowdell, DVM, CCRT and certified medical acupuncture veterinarian
I lived on San Juan Island for 10 years through the 1990s before leaving for veterinary training, and during the time away, I always considered the islands “the home where I don’t actually live for the moment”. I have been looking forward to returning to the islands since I left in 2000.
While I was gone, I earned a DVM from Ross University after completing a clinical year at the Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital. I then completed a small animal rotating internship in medicine and surgery at the Animal Specialty and Emergency Center in Los Angeles, CA followed by an additional year-long surgical internship at WestVet Animal Emergency and Specialty Center in Garden City, ID. After my surgical internship, I worked as a small animal general practitioner in Ukiah, CA for a year prior to returning to WestVet to head their Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation service for six years.
Back in the 1990s on San Juan, I worked as an assistant at Islands Veterinary Clinic and was a professional glass blower (among many other island jobs :) ).
